# Desktop client comparison

> Compare this project, two community clients, and DeepSeek's official desktop by positioning, platforms, runtime, plugins, and recovery.

Start with installers, runtime management, and recovery; then compare plugins and remote access.

> [!NOTE]
>
> As of 2026-09-30, using public READMEs, manifests, release notes, actual Release Assets, and the official download page.
> “Not confirmed” means no clear statement was found, not that a feature is absent; do not combine claims across release channels.

## Project positioning

| Project | Desktop stack | Main tradeoff |
| - | - | - |
| This project | Tauri 2 + React; separate Harness service | First-party desktop additions and runtime management; community plugins are optional |
| anywhere-labs/dsh-desktop | Electron; the desktop is a DSH/Cordis plugin | Plugin composition, Profile setup, and Agents Anywhere phone control |
| dataelement/dsh-desktop | Electron | Local-first, portable Agent presets, PPT, and a paired phone bridge |
| DeepSeek official desktop | Electron; bundled full Harness Web UI and Host | Official public preview; desktop and core update together, with plugins enabled as needed |

Framework names are not performance rankings. Size, memory, and responsiveness also depend on runtimes and plugins; this page has no common benchmark.

## Release channels and platforms

Only publicly downloadable installer assets count below; a README build target is not released support.

| Project | Formal channel | Preview / experimental channel | Installer assets on those channels |
| - | - | - | - |
| This project | [v0.19.1](https://github.com/dsh-tauri/deepseek-harness-desktop/releases/tag/v0.19.1) | [v0.20.0-beta.1](https://github.com/dsh-tauri/deepseek-harness-desktop/releases/tag/v0.20.0-beta.1) | Both: Win x64 EXE/MSI; macOS arm64/x64 DMG; Linux x64 AppImage/DEB |
| anywhere-labs | [v2.0.17](https://github.com/anywhere-labs/dsh-desktop/releases/tag/v2.0.17) | [Beta.1](https://github.com/anywhere-labs/dsh-desktop/releases/tag/v2.0.17-beta.1); [Next](https://github.com/anywhere-labs/dsh-desktop/releases/tag/v2.0.17-next) | All three: Win x64 Setup; macOS Universal DMG; Linux x64 AppImage/DEB/tar.gz |
| dataelement | [v0.10.0](https://github.com/dataelement/dsh-desktop/releases/tag/v0.10.0) | [v0.10.0-beta](https://github.com/dataelement/dsh-desktop/releases/tag/v0.10.0-beta) | Both: Win x64 Setup; macOS arm64/x64 DMG/ZIP; README explicitly says Linux is not currently supported |
| DeepSeek official | No separate formal channel listed | [Public preview download](https://www.deepseek.com/download/) | Win x64 EXE (Windows 10+); macOS arm64 DMG (Apple silicon, macOS 13+) |

* This project's v0.19.1 also has Bundle assets; the seven v0.20.0-beta.1 installer assets currently contain no Bundle.
* anywhere now ships Linux on formal/Beta channels, not just Next; Linux has compatibility mode only and no ARM64 package yet.
* GitHub `latest` / `prerelease=false` does not mean a formal channel: anywhere's `latest` points to experimental Next; dataelement's beta tag also has this flag.
* The official download page explicitly excludes Intel Macs and provides no Linux desktop package; a macOS x64 build target in source does not establish public release support.

## Management, plugins, and recovery

This project uses the v0.20.0-beta.1 manifest. The official column uses public preview pages and current desktop source; source version numbers are not treated as installer versions.

| Comparison | This project | anywhere-labs | dataelement | DeepSeek official |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| Profiles / runtime | Native Profiles; multiple cores, local `dsh` reuse, CLI registration | Profile wizard/switching; pinned Harness | Preserves Profile data; pinned Harness | Dedicated `desktop` Profile; core follows desktop updates, optional CLI registration |
| Plugin strategy | First-party built-ins; `dshmarket` and others are optional presets | Desktop as a plugin; bundled community market | Harness plugins; third-party plugins installed as needed | Shared Harness plugin manager; Creator mode builds plugins |
| Distinctive management | Skills/source management and MCP configuration: `dsh-tauri-extension` | Profile settings and plugin CLI | `.dshpreset` import/export, model providers, PPT | Plugin management, execution traces, and developer tools |
| Worktree / scheduling | Session Git Worktrees; scheduled runs and history | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Worktrees not confirmed; scheduling requires enabling a plugin, off by default |
| Plugin failure recovery | Identifies implicated plugins and guides removal | Recovery assistant | Diagnostics; non-destructive Safe Mode | Native recovery dialog; disable third-party plugins, back up Profile patch, and restart |

* This project recommends core `0.2.0-rc.2`, minimum `0.1.5-rc.1`; anywhere's current three channels pin `0.2.0-rc.2`.
* dataelement's manifest and v0.10.0 release notes use `0.1.7-rc.2`; its README still says rc.1. Use the version manifest.
* Current IDs here include `dsh-tauri-scheduler`, `dsh-tauri-archive`, and `dsh-tauri-model`; Beta adds native notifications through `dsh-tauri-notification`.
* Official Desktop and CLI share product data such as sessions and settings, but keep plugin activation and executable dependencies separate; this is not multiple-core switching.

## Different remote-access mechanisms

This project's column in this section was updated from current source on 2026-10-14. Other projects and the version table above retain the 2026-09-30 research; this is not a full comparison refresh.

| Mechanism | This project | anywhere-labs | dataelement | DeepSeek official |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| SSH remote host | Built-in `dsh-tauri-remote`; connects to remote `dsh web` through a loopback tunnel | Not confirmed | Not confirmed | Not confirmed |
| Phone continuation | Built-in LAN / Cloudflare tunnel and pairing; browser or DSH Mobile continuation | Agents Anywhere (since 2.0.9) | Separate paired bridge: LAN / temporary internet tunnel | Not confirmed |

* SSH runs Harness on a remote host; phone bridges continue desktop sessions. They are not the same kind of “remote support.”
* anywhere's browser-opening option does not change the bind address; separately enabling LAN exposes an unauthenticated endpoint. Use only fully trusted networks.
* dataelement keeps Harness on a random loopback port; internet pairing needs a password, and disconnecting the phone invalidates its mobile session.

## How to choose

* For multiple cores, first-party panels, Worktrees, scheduling, or SSH hosts, start with this project and check the formal/Beta channel.
* For a plugin-composed desktop and Agents Anywhere, consider anywhere; for portable presets, PPT, and paired phone access, consider dataelement.
* To use the official Harness desktop preview directly, check the official download page, confirm your OS and architecture, then enable plugins as needed.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Harness and plugins can execute local code. Profiles, Worktrees, Safe Mode, and plugin protection are not OS sandboxes.
> Review installers, plugins, and network exposure; use OS-level isolation for untrusted work.
